Adventures of Chip - Christmas in Vancouver 2008

Meet Chip, a little chipmunk who's travels I've decided to document.

His latest whereabouts have been in Vancouver, B.C. where he spent his Christmas holed up at home because of the unusual snowfall. It was said to be Vancouver's coldest winter with the most snowfall in the last 100 years. Blame it on global warming or climate change but nevertheless what a winter wonderland it was! It was as if Chip and the rest were trapped inside a glass box while the world outside shook constantly like a giant snow globe peppering the trees, roofs, ground and lamp posts with a thick layer of icing.

So Chip just stayed at home watching dvds, cooking, baking and eating.

And boy did he cook up a storm every night, from osso buco, toblueberry cheesecake to blueberry and lemon bread to a delicious mango frozen dessert. From morning to right before bed, the house was constantly filled with delcious smells permeating from the kitchen inviting everyone to gain more holiday weight than the other.

There was the delicious salad with incredibly sweet Asian pears and the pasta with sauteed mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes, it was a wonderful way to spend the holidays, despite not being able to leave the house.

Chip was a huge hit at the holiday dinners! Kids loved him, especially the twins who jumped on the ottoman as if they were on a circus trampoline clutching Chip in their hands. The Lais loved Chip as well, he and Jonathan became fast friends. Chip perched on his shoulder during dinner having an intimate conversation with him, as if one was whispering sweet nothings to the other.

But as you can see, Chip managed to sneak out of the house to frolic in the snow. How irresistible it was because the snow had never looked so thick. The trees glistened with the clumps of snow that had settled on the brown branches and the thick layer of icing that covered the outside looked so light and inviting. So of course, Chip was drawn to the outside along with the rest to play in the cold and to jump around in the thick powdery blanket of snow that covered every inch of the ground.

With great company and great food, it was a relaxing, warm and a truly indulgent Christmas.
